How Express Entry Works?

How Does the Express Entry Selection System Work?
The Express Entry selection system operates through two key stages. In the first stage, eligible candidates express their interest in obtaining Canadian permanent resident status. Below are the essential steps to complete the first stage of the Express Entry process:

Step 1 – Determine your eligibility for the Express Entry program.
Step 2 – Obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) and complete a recognized language test.
Step 3 – Create and submit your profile through the official online portal of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Once invited to apply for permanent residence, the following steps apply:

Step 4 – Submit your application for Permanent Residence (APR) along with the required fees, medical examination results, and police verification. You will receive an Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR).
Step 5 – Provide your biometrics when instructed by IRCC.
Step 6 – Await a final decision on your application. This process typically takes up to six months. If approved, you will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a Permanent Resident visa, enabling you to travel to and enter Canada.

The Comprehensive Ranking System
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to evaluate and rank candidates who have expressed their interest in immigrating to Canada through the Express Entry system and meet all eligibility requirements. The following key factors influence a candidate’s CRS score and overall ranking in the selection process:

• Core Human Capital Factors: Attributes such as age, education, work experience, and language proficiency.
• Accompanying Spouse or Partner Factors: Contributions to the CRS score based on the spouse’s education, language skills, and work experience in Canada.
• Skill Transferability Factors: A combination of education, work experience, and language proficiency that enhances a candidate’s ability to succeed in the Canadian labor market.
• Additional Factors: Points awarded for a provincial nomination, a valid job offer, Canadian education, French language skills, or having a sibling in Canada who is a permanent resident or citizen.

Candidates can earn up to 1200 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

• Those with the highest scores are issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Upon receiving an ITA, candidates must complete the submission process by providing all required documents and evidence within 90 days.
• All Express Entry applications are entered into a pool, and invitations are issued to eligible candidates periodically throughout the year. Candidates who are not selected can create a new profile and reapply for the Express Entry selection process.
