Alberta Releases Details on Three Health-Focused Immigration Draws

Last week, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) retroactively released details for three provincial immigration draws conducted in early April. All draws targeted health care professionals, issuing a total of 81 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) across three different pathways.

Breakdown of Each Draw:

  • April 1, 2025 – Express Entry Health Care Pathway
    Alberta invited 34 health care workers through its Express Entry-aligned health care stream. The minimum required score was 60.
  • April 4, 2025 – Priority Sectors: Health Care
    This draw targeted 19 candidates under the Alberta Express Entry stream for high-demand health care roles. The minimum score was 71.
  • April 8, 2025 – Non-Express Entry Health Care Pathway
    Alberta issued 28 invitations via the base stream for eligible health professionals. The lowest-ranking candidate had a score of 53.

To qualify under either pathway, candidates must be in one of the approved health care roles and meet licensure standards set by the corresponding Alberta regulatory authority:

Eligibility – Non-Express Entry Pathway:

Applicants must:

  • Hold a valid job offer in Alberta in an eligible health care role;
  • Meet at least CLB 5 in all language abilities or demonstrate licensure-based language competency;
  • Provide proof of meeting regulatory licensure requirements in Alberta;
  • Have valid work authorization or maintained status if already working in Alberta.

Note: This stream is for candidates who do not qualify for the Express Entry version.

Eligibility – Express Entry Health Care Pathway:

Applicants must:

  • Be eligible for Express Entry with a CRS score of 300+;
  • Have a primary occupation listed in one of the qualifying health care roles;
  • For Priority Sector draws, hold a valid job offer in Alberta in a listed health care occupation.
