For international students planning to study in Canada, receiving adequate support for your journey—including studying, working, and settling in Canada—requires careful planning.

Prometric has consistently provided financial assistance to international students, aligning with the expenses associated with studying and living in Canada. We are pleased to announce that we are expanding this support by increasing the awards for the CAEL Scholarships. With a total of $30,000 CAD in available awards, our top recipient will receive $15,000 CAD, while two additional prizes of $10,000 CAD and $5,000 CAD will also be awarded.

Eligibility Requirements

Applying for the CAEL Scholarship is simple and can be done online through your CAEL account. Test takers need to achieve a score of 60 or higher on their CAEL Test and must have been accepted to a Canadian university or college. For more details about eligibility requirements and application deadlines, please visit our website.

Test Format and Availability

Unfamiliar with the CAEL Test? Designed specifically to assess English language proficiency in an academic context, CAEL is one of the most effective assessments for identifying individuals with the necessary skills for success at Canadian universities and colleges. The test mirrors the language used in post-secondary settings, with test takers reading articles, listening to lecture recordings, and responding to multiple-choice, written, and spoken questions, just as they would in a first-year university or college classroom.

CAEL can be taken at test centers or online from home, accommodating test takers across Canada and worldwide. It is accepted by over 180 Canadian universities and colleges and recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the Student Direct Stream (SDS), allowing students to expedite their studies in Canada with a single test score.

Whether taken online or at a test center, the entire test is completed on a computer in one sitting, covering the four language components: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. There are no separate speaking appointments required.

Accepting Institutions

CAEL is accepted by more than 180 Canadian universities and colleges, including all major post-secondary institutions across the country offering undergraduate and graduate programs. This includes universities in major Canadian cities and U15 institutions such as the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University, McMaster University, Dalhousie University, and others. To find out if your school accepts CAEL, consult our list of participating institutions.
