IRCC Sends Out 911 Invitations to Apply in Latest Express Entry Draw for PNP Candidates

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released invitations to apply (ITAs) in the most recent Express Entry draw. In this draw, 911 ITAs were issued exclusively to candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). To be considered, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 732.

Today's draw marks the first of the month and follows a busy summer for Express Entry. In July and August, IRCC conducted 14 separate draws. Notably, July saw a record-breaking nine draws, the highest number in a single month since the system's inception in 2015.

The most recent Express Entry draw occurred on August 27, issuing 3,330 invitations exclusively to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class program.

IRCC has recently adopted a pattern of holding multiple draws every two weeks, usually including at least one draw for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. This approach aligns with IRCC's goal to increase "domestic" draws, providing more opportunities for temporary residents in Canada to transition to permanent residency and managing the volume of new temporary residents.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry, introduced by IRCC in 2015, is an application management system designed to select economic immigration candidates with in-demand skills. It oversees three immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a key component of Express Entry, assigning points for attributes like language ability, work experience, education, occupation, and age. Candidates with the highest scores are most likely to receive an invitation to apply (ITA).

Candidates in these programs can also apply through Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams aligned with Express Entry, known as enhanced nominations. These candidates receive an additional 600 CRS points, greatly increasing their chances of receiving an ITA.

In 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws to target candidates with specific in-demand attributes, mostly related to work experience. These draws are not tied to specific Express Entry programs, though candidates must still be in the Express Entry pool.

The minimum CRS score required for these draws is typically lower than for program-specific or general draws.

The six categories are:

  • Healthcare Occupations

  • STEM Professions

  • Trades Occupations

  • Transport Occupations

  • Agriculture and Agri-food Occupations

  • French-Language Proficiency

IRCC reviews these categories annually and may adjust them based on shifting labor market priorities and demographic needs.
